Yes, I’m still alive!
Sunday, June 24th, 2007Sorry for not posting for so long. My previous post got eaten by my n00byness, so please forgive me. It’s up now.
Anyway….
In the school dept.: yes, I kept my 4.0 GPA. Barely scraped by with a 90 in English, but I blame poor grading standards. For some reason I got a B- on the Chemistry final, which I’m not totally sure how the heck that happened, but I still have a mid-level A for the class. Oh well.
In the ACT dept.: I’m not happy with my score of a 35/36. I want a 36/36. Mainly because one of my friends got it, and I was within 0.25 points of achieving a 36 (and if I had done as well on Science as I had done on the practice tests, I would have gained that quarter point!). So, I now plan to repeatedly retake the ACT until either I get lucky and get that 36 or I graduate. Am I crazy? Heck yeah. But crazy people tend to get better scores.
In the Botball dept.: I’m not going there. Sorry. I’ll save Botball discussion for another time.
In the driver’ ed. dept.: I’ve had about a week of driver’s ed so far, and I’ve generally gotten the hang of some of it (driving on city streets is cool, haven’t gotten on a highway yet, have to pay attention 100% of the time, so no adjusting the radio or something like that). And the aforementioned dream has decided to go away.
In the work dept.: having quite a bit of fun at work. Bricked some equipment a few days in, and spent the next 3 days trying to unbrick it (finally succeeded). Don’t want to give much more away.
In the science fair dept.: development of our project is going quite well, although we’ve run into a few hitches. Ordered some new equipment off eBay, which should help us a lot.
In the programming projects dept.: I’m working on a new project, but I don’t want to make it public for a while. If you’d like to beta test, IM me, and I’ll see if I can get you a working beta. I’ll probably only include people whom I know, though, so if you’re Joe Smith from the hardware store, don’t expect beta access.
In the business dept.: if you go to the same school as I do, and are interested in parody school ID’s (I made one for a science teacher with Steven Hawking, and another for a social studies teacher with “Alfalfa Bill” Murray), IM me. Image and text are customizable. I’m thinking I’ll charge around $5 for each ID. These will NOT get you in trouble or invalidate your real ID, as they are printed on high-quality photo paper and do not modify or deface your original ID. If there’s enough interest, I’ll start a sort of business out of this (I seriously need some money, and a way to be popular; this might do both, sort of). Please note that all ID’s must be compliant with the school dress code and must be obviously fake, and that by purchasing an ID, you are certifying that you will not attempt to pass it as a real ID or otherwise use it for fraudulent purposes.
In the “real life” dept.: my dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer a couple months ago. He had surgery in Houston last Monday, and is recovering quite nicely. I’m at a hotel at the moment; we’ll get back to Oklahoma tonight.
In the rant dept: the Dept. of Homeland Security recently illegally deported a U.S. citizen to Mexico, apparently because he was developmentally disabled and was unable to answer some of their questions regarding his citizenship. First it was illegal wiretaps, then it was authorizing torture and banning habeas corpus, now it’s deporting U.S. citizens who aren’t even suspected of breaking any law. If the Bush Administration can get away with this, then America is completely screwed. To the Bush Administration: you are not the defenders of freedom. You are the enemies of freedom. I hope you crazed Fascists get impeached, arrested, and sent to the Hague for life. Screw you and all your policies.
And, I think that’s all that’s going on. Until next time!
